Crystals are stone just a more refined variety. There is nothing fundamentally unsafe or bad about using any crystal, but certain energies with certain crystals can help amplify a working in magick such as a planetary square, or a runic working, since certain runes go best with certain crystals, etc. Certain crystals can also be used to store energy, yes. I think clear quartz is one of the best for these if i am not mistaken. Certain crystals also like runes have either masculine or feminine qualities, and are either more prone to projecting or receiving. Many feminine stones such as black tourmaline and onyx are used for concealment and protection and are often used with the berkanao, algiz and laguz runes.

Crystals are all connected to certain elements, signs and planets.
